| Requirements Engineering Requirements Engineering (RE) is a vital part of Requirements Handling. It is the process of developing and ensuring quality in requirements documents throughout the life of any project. RE involves the methodical application of scientific techniques in order to control the quality of the overall requirement in a measurable manner. It is an intellectually demanding and painstaking activity, based upon the principles of Information Engineering, which requires considerable skill and experience to be applied. For complex requirements, the requirements engineer needs to apply a sound methodology and be supported by a comprehensive suite of tools which embodies appropriate functionality, including meaningful metrics. In this respect RE is no different from any other engineering discipline.
